FAMILY SERVICES

Empowerment Partnership Scheme (EPS)

The Empowerment Partnership Scheme (EPS) is a holistic help package provided by the Islamic Council of Singapore (MUIS) for poor and needy families covering economic, social and religious empowerment programmes.  Each family is entrusted by MUIS to a service provider, often a Voluntary Welfare Organisation (VWO), to customize programmes for each family member and managed by an assigned family counselor cum case manager.  The scheme is targeted at families facing multiple challenges.  Since 2004, more than 400 individuals have benefited from this scheme managed by Ain Society.

Who Qualifies For It?

  • Low-income families currently in MUIS’ Zakat financial assistance recipient database.
  • Applicant is either a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident and is 45 years old and below.
  • Does not possess either GCE ‘O’ or ‘N’ level passes.
  • Combined family monthly income less than $1,500.

How Does It Work?

  • Families are assigned to VWOs based on proximity of residence.
  • Families are interviewed to ascertain their economic and training needs by the assigned counselor-cum-case manager.
  • Each family member gets an Individual Client Plan where he/she attends prescribed programmes such as skills-based training courses, after which the certification would enable them secure employment.
